The Botetourt County Sheriff's Office is a full service Sheriff's Office and is responsible for law enforcement services, jail administration, court security, and serving papers from the courts. While we may not always have positions open, we do continuously accept applications for the positions of Law Enforcement Deputy Sheriff and Corrections Deputy Sheriff. 
The minimum Qualifications to be considered for either position as a Deputy Sheriff are as follows:

1.  Be a citizen of the United States.
2.  Be required to undergo a comprehensive background investigation including fingerprint-based criminal history records inquiries.
3.  Have a high school education or have passed the General Educational Development (GED) exam.
4.  Possess a valid driver's license.
5.  Be willing to undergo a physical examination, subsequent to a conditional offer of employment, conducted under the supervision of a licensed physician.
6.  Be at least 21 years of age.
7.  Not been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in the Commonwealth.
8.  Not been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to any misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, including but not limited to petit larceny, or any offense involving moral turpitude that would be a misdemeanor if committed in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
9.  Not been convicted of any misdemeanor sex offense in the Commonwealth of Virginia, another state, or the United States.
10.  Not been convicted of domestic assault under § 18.2-57.2 or any offense that would be domestic assault under the laws of another state or the United States.

For applicable positions, current certification is preferred but not required.  All applicants should complete the Virginia Employment Commission State Application found below.
